Robin Class Autumn 2024
Autumn Term 1 2024
Year 1 & 2 Teacher (Robins) - Mrs R Rorstad
This afternoon at Forest School, Robins started the FS Session by looking around the FS Site for changes that have happened since last week's session. Lots of the leaves had fallen to the floor and there were loose branches on the ground. The children used their "human senses" and "relaxation techniques" to find calm and good listening skills. Mrs Legg had to remind the children of their behaviour at FS today to ensure that they were safe to use FS Tools in the FS Session. This week we used the wooden trolley to take all the equipment to the Forest School Site. As a group we have named the trolley, "Dolly". Trolley Dolly!! The children found it fun naming the trolley!! Mrs Legg introduced the new tools to the children - pruning saw and palm drills. Mrs Legg reminded and taught the children the health & safety of using tools and modelled the task. Mrs Legg reminded the children of the "oooo tools" and how to protect their femoral arteries - "Respect Position". All of the children had a go at using a pruning saw and palm drill supervised by an adult member of staff. The children that were not using the tools erected shelters independently using paracord and pegs. All the children made a wooden sawn bead necklace that was worn around their neck with pride. Despite the changeable weather, the children showed good concentration with the tools and determination to saw right through the branches. The children walked to the FS Site there and back today really well and safely. Mrs Legg was proud of the end results today. Well done.
W/C 14th October This afternoon at Forest School, Robins started the FS Session by doing some nature yoga as a calming down and mindfulness activity. The weather forecast was sunny, thankfully after a week of rain. The FS Site was quite wet and muddy today so care needed to be taken. When we arrived at the Forest School Site, we set up our equipment and resources at the back of it under the trees; making the most of the cover from the above trees. Mrs Legg introduced the new tools and health & safety of fire lighting to the children - ferro rods, scallop shells and cotton wool . Mrs Legg reminded the children to use their "Respect Position" when using the fire striking tools. The children created "Fairy Fires" with the ferro rods, scallop shells and cotton wool. The children showed excellent resilience with the fire striking and a few of them showed the skill to light the cotton wool. The children and Mrs Legg enjoyed the fire lighting session. Well done to all. Next week we will extend these skills to lighting a cooking fire for popcorn!
