Welcome

Message from the Headteacher

Adam GoughIt gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Burton Bradstock CE Primary school. We are a small, happy and caring school, nestled in the beautiful village of Burton Bradstock on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. We have four classes with an Early Years class (FS1 and 2), a Key Stage 1 class (Years 1 and 2), a lower Key Stage 2 class (Years 3 and 4) and an upper Key Stage 2 class (Years 5 and 6). We have close links with the church and local community as well as a strong governing body. The school is part of Initio Learning Trust, a group of sixteen schools, who work together to share understanding, practice and expertise to provide similar opportunities for all children in the local area.

I am very lucky to lead such a dedicated team of teachers and support staff. All the staff are devoted professionals who are committed to providing the best possible education for your child. We seek to provide a happy and purposeful community, in which your child can learn, play and grow.

As well as providing a high-quality education, we also aim to expose children to experiences that will give them the confidence, self-esteem and resilience needed to carry them to life-long fulfilment and success. We offer a range of extracurricular clubs, educational visits, residential trips, and we are also lucky enough to have use of the village sports field and a Forest School area. We have a before school club which runs from 7:45 in our school hall.

Our last Ofsted Report in March 2019 states that, “Pupils exhibit positive attitudes to learning because they enjoy their work and benefit from strong relationships with staff. Pupils feel challenged and supported in their work because, as one pupil said, ‘The teachers really understand you. Classrooms have a dynamic, positive atmosphere because pupils are confident answering questions, expressing views and making mistakes…”

As a church school, our outlook and attitudes centre around our core Christian values of Hope, Respect, Friendship, Love, Courage and Happiness. Our school is a special place where we value every child as unique, and we strive to develop them academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually in our happy and nurturing environment.

Many parents choose our school because of our caring, inclusive ethos where every child is valued as an individual. Ofsted reported, “The ‘family atmosphere’ of the school nurtures pupils and enables them to build up confidence as they move through the school. By the time they leave, pupils are self-assured and well-prepared for the changes that come with secondary school.” (Ofsted 2019).

I hope that our school website and prospectus give you a flavour of our school. We welcome visits, please contact the school office to arrange to come and look around.
